  8. 10 Shallots roughly chopped
  9. 2 tsp Curry leaves
  10. 2 Dry Red Chillies broken
  11. 1 Medium size Tomato chopped
  12. 5 Garlic pods crushed
  13. 1/2 Tbsp red Chilli powder
  14. To taste Salt
  15. 2 Tbsp Grated Coconut
  16. 2 tsp Coriander leaves

Steps to make to make Paruppu Masiyal / Paruppu Kadaiyal / Dal Tadka

  1. Wash and soak the moong dal for 30 mins.
  2. In a pressure cooker add moong dal, turmeric powder,castor oil and required water. Cook for 5 whistles.
  3. In a currypan, add oil. Once oil gets heat add mustard seeds to splutter. Then add asafoetida.
  4. Add onions,curry leaves and dry red chillies. Saute till onions becomes translucent.
  5. Then add tomatoes. Keep the flame low and saute for 5 mins.
  6. Add the cooked dal with that water. Then add garlic,chilli powder and salt. If required add some more water. Cover with a lid and cook for 15mins in medium flame.
  7. Atlast add grated coconut mix well. Switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.
  8. Serve with hot rice topped with some ghee.
