Ingredients and spices that need to be Prepare to make Dhabe Wali Dal:

  1. 3/4 Cup Chana Dal
  2. 1/2 Cup Dhuli Urad Dal
  3. 2 tbsp Tuvar / Arhar Dal
  4. 2 Onions, finely chopped
  5. 2 Tomatoes, finely chopped or shredded in the chopper
  6. 7-8 Garlic Cloves, finely chopped
  7. 1 inch Ginger, julienned
  8. 2-3 Green Chillies, finely chopped
  9. 1 tsp Cumin Seeds/ Zeera
  10. 2 Cloves
  11. 1 Black Cardamom
  12. 1 Bay Leaf
  13. 1 tsp Kasuri Methi
  14. 2 tsp Coriander/ Dhaniya Powder
  15. 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  16. 3/4 tsp Garam Masala Powder
  17. 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  18. 1/4 tsp Asafoetida Powder
  19. 1/2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  20. Salt to taste
  21. 2 tsp Clarified Butter / Ghe
  22. 2 tbsp Chopped Fresh Coriander
  23. Water, as required

Steps to make to make Dhabe Wali Dal

  1. Wash the dals well. Soak in a bowlful of water for 15-20 minutes.
    Add them to a pressure cooker with a little salt, pressure cook. Cook for 10 mins on sim after the first big whistle, take off heat.
  2. Now heat the ghee in a cooking pan, add the cumin seeds, cloves, bay leaf, black cardamom, kasuri methi and allow to crackle for a few seconds.
  3. Immediately add the asafoetida, turmeric, coriander, cumin, red chilli powders. Saute briskly for two seconds on low medium heat.
  4. Add the chopped garlic, ginger and green chillies. Saute for a few seconds until golden brown.
  5. Add the chopped onions, saute until they turn golden brown.
  6. Add the tomatoes. Saute until they turn soft and leave the sides of the pan
  7. Add salt and garam masala powder, mix & saute for a minute.
  8. Add 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves. Add this ready masala into the cooked dal in the cooker.
  9. Add water as required, again pressure cook upto 2 whistles.
  10. Take off heat. Garnish with the remaining fresh coriander leaves. Serve hot with naan, roti, parantha or rice. I served it with Tikona Paranthas today! 😍
